Sample Paragraph

The protagonist in The Thickety by J.A. White is a 12-year old girl named Kara who lives in a small village. She battles a witch who was attacking her village. Throughout the story, Kara’s relationship with magic changes. At first, she is just a girl who knows nothing of magic except that her mother used it, but, over time, she uses magic herself. Kara’s strengths include that she knows how to use magic, she is caring because she has to take care of her brother and dad, and she is good with animals. A key weakness is that her magic is tied to possessing a magical book. When the witch takes her book, Kara cannot defeat her with magic but must use her own words and ideas to defeat her and save her village. Kara is a strong protagonist because she persists through the toughest times and never gives up on what she believes in.
